ENEC Mark
Print this page

tt

IntertekENEC is the high quality European Mark for electrical products that demonstrates compliance with European safety standards. ENEC (European Norms Electrical Certification) is a certification scheme under CENELEC and the ENEC Mark is accepted throughout Europe. It used to be a certification mark for luminaires and lighting components only, but today products such as security transformers, power supply units, IT equipment, switching devices, capacitors and filters may also bear the ENEC Mark. tt

From 2008 ENEC Mark was expanded to household appliances. The expansion of the ENEC Mark Certification Scheme to all electrical products creates a single independent high quality safety mark for Europe. The opening of the Scheme to manufacturers worldwide will improve the safety of electrical products being placed on the European market.

ENEC means safety in Europe, and all signatories of the ENEC Mark Scheme actively support its commitment to the highest safety levels.

Proof of third party testing

Testing takes place in independent ENEC approved test laboratories worldwide, and in approved manufacturers’ laboratories, this includes all Intertek labs and accredited SMTs currently acting under the CCA & CB schemes. Consumers and retailers want to feel confident that the products they purchase are safe. As brands become more interchangeable, and since CE marking is self-declared and does not require independent testing, marks from impartial testing companies, such as the ENEC Mark, become increasingly important since they convey the safety customers are looking for.

The ENEC Mark shows that:

  • the product complies with applicable EN safety standard and performance testing requirement.
  • the manufacturer applies a quality system according to ISO 9000
  • end products are re-tested every two years.
  • the manufacturer has a verified production control, e.g. factory inspections.

How the ENEC Mark works

ENEC Mark Scheme procedures constitute a full certification scheme (ISO Type 5).

This includes:

  • Third party testing and certification
  • Annual factory inspection
  • Ongoing product and production monitoring
  • Visible use of ENEC Mark logo on products
  • Safety assurance for certification lifetime
  • Regular marketplace monitoring of the ENEC Mark

ENEC test labs strict requirements include:

  • New Testing Laboratory initial assessment criteria
  • Stringent re-assessment programme of testing operations
  • Regular testing expert meetings
  • Comparative testing programmes

ENEC Mark scope

From January 2008 covers:

  • Luminaires and associated components
  • Household appliances
  • IT equipment
  • Safety transformers
  • Couplers, connecting devices
  • Controls, switches
  • C
